The town is located in North-East Bulgaria, which is part of Shumen Municipality. It is an archeological town under the protection of UNESCO and the early medieval capital of Bulgaria � Pliska. Among the ruins of Pliska has many remnants of medieval religious buildings associated with both the pagan religion of the Bulgarians and Slavs.
Today, the National Archaeological Reserve Pliska has a new museum building and exposure, showing bits and parts of the material and spiritual heritage of the population inhabited the ancient capital.
